In Vitro Fertilization- when an egg is manually fertilized by a sperm in a laboratory disk. After the fertilization is successful, the embryo is placed into the uterus, a process known as embryo transfer. Medications are prescribed to ensure that the body is prepared for the treatment. Medications are also used to increase the probability that more healthy eggs will be released from the ovaries.
Surrogacy:
IVF can also function to help women who are unable to carry her own child. The egg and sperm are donated by the parents who wish to have a child but are unable to, and undergo IVF. After successful fertilization, a surrogate mum, a woman who is able to carry a child, carries the embryo for the parents and delivers there child for them. This process is known as Host Surrogacy.
