What are they?
1. Gonorrhea- "The Clap" : Gonorrhea is a long term STD that is spread bacterially. It affects a female's cervix, a male's urethra, or the throat of either sex. Its most noticeable symptom is burning while urinating or a yellowish penile discharge in males.
2. Hepatitis : There is a vaccine to prevent Hepatitis, but if a person is infected and untreated, the liver will scar, causing cirrhosis and liver cancer. Most people show little side effects, but some include (as shown in the image to the left) muscle pain, fatigue, yellowing of the eyes, and nausea.
3. Syphilis : A bacteria-caused STD. Treponema Pallidum is the name of the bacteria that spreads syphilis, and it is spread by direct contact between small, non-irritating sores on the mouth, rectum, vagina or any genital spot not covered with a condom. Symptoms of syphilis include hair loss, sores, and patchy skin.
IMPORTANT!! A woman who is infected with syphilis CAN pass it on to her child REGARDLESS of whether or not the sores are present at the time that the baby is delivered. Even though symptoms are not present, the disease still is.

4. Chlamydia : People who are infected with chlamydia, most likely will not show any signs or symptoms, which is why it is the most common STD. If symptoms occur, sexual intercourse becomes painful and is accompanied by a thick, discolored discharge.
5. Crabs : Crabs appear as visible eggs or lice in the pubic area (as shown in the image to the left). A person with crabs will become very itchy. Crabs cannot be removed by shaving and can spread to a person's eye lashes, eyebrows, and underarms if not treated.
6. Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) : Although there is a vaccine preventing HPV, it is still the most widespread STD. HPV can lead to other serious diseases, such as genital warts and cervical cancer. Most of the time, HPV shows no side effects or symptoms, but on the rare occasion where symptoms are found, they are genital warts and RPP (where warts grow in the throat causing breathing problems).
7. Herpes : Herpes are painful sores on a person's mouth or genitals. It is transmitted by any contact between sores whether it be mouth to mouth, mouth to genital, or genital to genital, EVEN IF THE INFECTED PERSON DOES NOT HAVE VISIBLE SORES. The sores can be treated with antibiotics, but this will never get rid of the disease, and it will most likely appear between 2 and 4 times a year.
8. HIV : HIV is transmitted by any exchange of bodily fluids. Symptoms include anything that one would experience if they were to have the flu. Although HIV is deadly, those who are lucky enough to be diagnosed early can live a long, healthy life with the help of drug therapy preventing the progression of HIV to AIDS.
9. Trichomoniasis : Often called a yeast infection or BV. Symptoms include a thick, gray discharge, vaginal odor, pain or burning during intercourse, and itchiness. Trichomoniasis affects a woman's urethra and vagina. It can be transmitted between sex partners but men typically do not have Trichomonaisis.
10. Bacterial Vaginosis : BV is not always considered a STD and is found in those who are at an age that they are able to have a child, but also have multiple sex partners. This disease occurs when there is an imbalance in bacteria in the vagina, which causes burning and itching along with thick, grey discharge. However, on the bright side, antibiotics can clear this disease right up! But the person can get it again, leaving them prone to the disease.
IMPORTANT!! A woman who has had BV and is prone to the virus is at a higher risk of premature birth
